Hair botox has nothing to do with injections or botulinum. It is a deep conditioning and filling treatment that packs damaged, porous areas of the hair shaft with proteins, amino acids and lipids, then seals them in. It repairs, adds gloss and reduces frizz without changing your curl pattern, and typically lasts two to four months. It is the right choice for damaged hair, and the wrong choice if your main goal is straightening.
First, what hair botox is not
The name is pure marketing and it causes real confusion, so let us clear it immediately. There are no needles involved. There is no botulinum toxin. Nothing is injected into your scalp or your hair. The name was borrowed because the effect on the hair shaft is loosely analogous to a filler: it plumps out the gaps and the hair looks smoother and healthier as a result.
It is also not a straightening treatment, although a great many salons market it as one. Hair botox will not permanently relax your curls. It reduces frizz and makes hair far easier to blow-dry straight, which is why the confusion persists, but your natural pattern stays exactly where it was.
What it actually does
Damage to hair is, physically, loss of material. Bleaching, colouring, heat styling, hard water and sun all erode the protein and lipid content of the cortex and chip away at the cuticle, leaving microscopic holes and rough scales. Porous, gappy hair is why damaged hair feels rough, tangles constantly, drinks product without ever feeling satisfied, and snaps when you comb it.
A hair botox formula is a dense cocktail of hydrolysed proteins, amino acids, ceramides, vitamins and lipids, often with ingredients such as caviar oil, argan oil, collagen or B5. It is applied to the lengths, given time and gentle heat to migrate into the porous areas, and then sealed with a flat iron or a cool set depending on the system. The gaps are filled, the cuticle lies flat, and the hair regains density, weight and shine.
Hair botox compared with keratin
These two are confused constantly, and choosing wrongly is the difference between a treatment that solves your problem and one that merely masks it.
| Point | Hair botox | Keratin treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Main purpose | Repair and refill damaged hair | Smooth and control frizz |
| Effect on curl pattern | Essentially unchanged | Loosened and softened |
| Effect on volume | Adds density and body | Can slightly flatten |
| Chemistry | Deep conditioning, usually no smoothing agents | Protein sealing with heat, sometimes aldehyde-based |
| Best for | Bleached, brittle, over-processed hair | Frizzy, coarse, humidity-affected hair |
| Typical longevity | 2 to 4 months | 3 to 5 months |
| Can be layered | Yes, often used to prep or maintain other services | Not layered over itself frequently |
The short version: if your problem is that your hair is damaged, choose botox. If your problem is that your hair is frizzy but otherwise healthy, choose keratin or nanoplastia. If your hair is both damaged and frizzy, we usually do a botox course first to rebuild condition and then smooth once the hair is strong enough to take it.
Who hair botox suits
- Bleached, highlighted or balayaged hair that has gone straw-like at the ends.
- Hair that snaps when you comb it or shows a lot of short broken pieces around the crown.
- Over-processed hair from repeated chemical services.
- Hair damaged by daily straightening or curling without heat protection.
- Hair that feels thin and lifeless at the ends and thick at the roots.
- Anyone who wants a glossy, healthy finish before a wedding or event without a chemical smoothing service.
- Guests who want to prepare damaged hair before eventually having keratin or colour.
It suits almost everyone in the sense that it is one of the lowest-risk professional treatments available. Where it disappoints is when it is sold as a straightening service to someone with tight curls who was expecting a different outcome.
The process at Selestia
- 1.Assessment of porosity and elasticity. We stretch a wet strand and watch how it behaves, which tells us far more than looking at it does.
- 2.Clarifying wash to remove hard-water minerals, silicone and build-up, so the formula reaches the hair rather than the residue on it.
- 3.Towel dry and even sectioning.
- 4.Application of the filling formula from mid-length to ends, with the most porous areas saturated most heavily.
- 5.Processing under gentle steam or an infrared hood so the actives migrate into the shaft.
- 6.Rinse or leave-in depending on the system used.
- 7.Blow-dry and sealing, either with slow flat-iron passes or a cool set, again depending on the system.
- 8.Finish, and a short honest briefing on how long to expect the result to hold given your hair's condition.
Allow ninety minutes to two and a half hours. There is no strong odour, no scalp burn risk and no seventy-two-hour restriction with most systems, which makes it one of the easiest treatments to fit into a busy week.
Hair snapping, dull or over-processed? Book a condition assessment and we will build a repair plan around it.
Hair servicesHow long it lasts, and how to make it last longer
Two to four months is the realistic window. Very damaged hair sits at the shorter end initially, because heavily porous hair loses the filling faster, and each subsequent session tends to hold a little longer as the overall condition improves. This is why we often recommend a course of two or three sessions spaced six weeks apart for badly damaged hair, rather than a single dramatic treatment.
Rajkot's hard water is again the main enemy. Mineral deposits build on the shaft, roughen the cuticle and shorten the result, so guests on a borewell supply see a noticeable difference from a simple shower filter. A sulphate-free shampoo, cool rinses and consistent heat protection do the rest.
Aftercare
- Use a sulphate-free and salt-free shampoo and conditioner.
- Rinse cool, and avoid very hot showers running over your lengths.
- Condition mid-lengths to ends every wash, never the scalp.
- Use a heat protectant before any tool and keep the temperature moderate.
- Book a hydrating hair spa every three to four weeks between botox sessions.
- Trim every eight to ten weeks. Botox fills damage; it does not glue split ends back together.
- Wear a hat or scarf in peak Rajkot sun, since UV oxidises the cuticle quickly.
- Space additional chemical services sensibly and always tell your stylist your full history.
Is it safe?
Hair botox is among the safest professional treatments we offer. Most systems contain no formaldehyde, no ammonia and no relaxing agents, and they work by deposition rather than by breaking anything down. It is safe on coloured hair, safe over highlights and generally safe on hair that has already had keratin or smoothening, though we would always check the timing.
The only real caution is protein overload. Hair needs a balance of protein and moisture, and repeated protein-heavy treatments on hair that is actually moisture-starved can leave it feeling stiff and brittle. That is exactly why we test elasticity first and why we alternate botox with hydrating spa rituals rather than stacking protein on protein.
The takeaway
Hair botox is the repair treatment, not the straightening treatment. If your hair is bleached, brittle, snapping or simply exhausted, this is probably the most useful thing you can do for it, and it carries very little risk. If your hair is healthy and you want it flat and frizz-free, you want keratin, nanoplastia or smoothening instead. Come in and let us test your hair's elasticity honestly, and we will tell you which one your hair is actually asking for.
